Garmin Thailand plans to introduce eTrex 10, eTrex 20 and eTrex 30. From what was heard, the new eTrex family is expected in the end of the 1Q 2012.

The new eTrex series consist of a new receiver, which can work with both: GPS and GLONASS. Thanks to that, the new receiver can get the satellite lock 20% faster than a unit working with a GPS only.

What are the similarities in this new eTrex family:

  • interface  – all units use USB cable
  • the same weight (141.7 g; 5 oz)
  • batteries – 2 AA with approximately 25 hours of battery life
  • all units include base map
  • Geocaching friendly (paperless)
  • hunt/fish calendar and sun and moon information
  • area calculation
  • ability to add custom POIs
  • Garmin Connect compatible

So what are the differences between the units:

  • display resolution (eTrex 10 – 128 x 160 pixels, eTrex 20 and 30 – 176 x 220 pixels)
  • display type (eTrex 10 – transflective/monochrome, the other 2 – transflective, 65-K color TFT)
  • adding maps is supported only with eTrex 20 and 30, which have additional 1.7 GB of internal memory storage
  • eTrex 20 and eTrex 30 accept data cards (microSD)
  • you can store 1,000 more waypoints (2,000 in total) on eTrex 20 and eTrex 30
  • 150 more routes can be added on eTrex 20 and 30 (200 in total)
  • electronic compass and barometric sensor is available only on eTrex 30
  • photo navigation is not supported on eTrex 10
  • wireless unit-to-unit transfer is supported only on eTrex 30
